Hey! I’m Sam

Since I’ve been stuck inside my house for incredibly long, I think I’ve missed out and forgotten a lot of small interactions that really would make my day pre-pandemic. One of these things was meeting new people. And recently, I remembered that I never properly introduced myself to you all. During our short zoom room talks, you might’ve gotten small snippets of my life or maybe you haven’t. Maybe we haven’t spoken at all??? So, in this post, I will reclaim my missed out introductions to you all. Let’s do this:

Hey! I’m Sam, and it’s nice to meet you all. You probably have realize that I sometimes don’t have my camera on during class. This is almost always because I like to cook. Our meeting time, 1:00 pm, usually falls around when I like to eat lunch. So while I listen to our class discussions, I’ll be cooking pasta, rice, different kinds of meats, and vegetables. I try to avoid eating too much processed food, so I do a lot of cooking myself now. I’ll even cook for my roommates sometimes if they get hungry. Spending time cooking food is definitely worth it for me. I absolutely love good food. I always say, the quickest way to my heart is through my stomach.

Along with cooking, I spend my days drawing, playing guitar, playing video games, and catching up with friends. I’m from Boston, Massachusetts, so many of my old high school friends are across the country, but I’ve met a lot of new, amazing friends here in California.

Over the pandemic, guitar and singing has definitely become much more important to me. Sometimes after class, I just whip out my guitar and start singing. Something about it is just incredibly therapeutic. If I’m worried, I sing. If I’m happy, I sing. I can’t really explain it, but it has certainly been keeping me sane through all of this. I also like to sing for other people. In our breakout rooms, after we finish talking, maybe you’ll catch me singing!

Seemingly opposite to singing and guitar, I’m majoring in Computer Science (games) in the engineering school. From my major, you can probably assume that I love to play games. And, I will assure you, you would most certainly be spot on. The one game I’m playing now is called Valorant. This is a team based shooter game. At the beginning of the year, USC held tryouts for the university Valorant team, and the players made me captain of the whole team. So that certainly has helped me meet a lot of people, but it’s kept me relatively busy! If you play Valorant or I just interested in games, feel free to reach out!

Other than that, I can only say that I’ve really enjoyed my journey out here to the West Coast. I’ve met a plethora of smart, friendly, and talented individuals. It’s quite intimidating, but I’m incredibly excited to meet you all next semester. You’ll probably see me riding around on my new long board around campus! (This East Coast boy just learned!)
